Programme Activities

LENF has over twelve years experience of working in the Niger Delta, in particular in the three core states of Delta, Cross Rivers and Bayelsa. LENF works with all sectors of society; local communities, local government and corporations to encourage the sustainable management of natural resources for the mutual benefit of all stakeholders. Some of LENF's key programme activities are listed below:

  • Participatory Learning and Action processes in local communities to develop community natural resource management projects.

  • Capacity building of NGOs and other organisations to develop community natural resource management projects

  • Establishment of micro credit programmes for natural resource management.

  • Integration of Environmental Education approaches (including workshops, radio programmes, posters, drama) to promote a better understanding of environmental issues, and in particular forestry issues in Cross River.

  • Community radio engages listeners throughout both regions, warning of environmental problems and focusing on successful local solutions

  • Community drama to engage community members in debate about the environment

  • Publication and distribution of lessons learned from the programmes in Nigeria.
