Partners: Non-Governmental Organisations

LENF is currently working in partnership with four other Nigerian NGOs to deliver its Developing Good Governance in the Niger Delta Project - an EC funded project that is supported by both Living Earth Foundaion (UK) and International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). The Nigerian partners are detailed below:

Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa - Nigeria)
Idasa is an independent public interest organisation committed to promoting sustainable democracy based on active citizenship, democratic institutions, and social justice.

Academic Associates Peace Works (AAPW)
AAPW is is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation established in 1988, AAPW aims to "build awareness of the need and possibilities of peace in society, to empower individuals and groups in building peace, through training and networking and to develop the framework for the peace process through action-oriented research and intervention in current or potential conflicts".

Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (IHRHL)
IHRHL, established in August 1988, is a non-political, non-profit national organization, based in the Niger Delta. IHRL is "working to popularise and sustain human rights, rule of law, democracy and good governance for purposeful citizenship participation in community and national life".

Our Niger Delta (OND)
Our Niger Delta is a non-governmental organisation based in Port Harcourt and Yenagoa in the Niger Delta which focuses on emphasising the links between peace and development.


LENF's programmes - both past and present - are, and have been, delivered through working in partnership with diverse organisations.

Niger Delta Wetlands Centre (NDWC), Port Harcourt
Niger Delta Wetlands Centr's visions is "to carry out research, natural resource management and human development activities; it is to implement goal-directed projects for community-driven development actions to improve the quality of life and alleviate poverty in the Niger Delta".

Pro-Natura International (PNI) - Nigeria
PNI links poverty alleviation with preservation of the environment and is committed to the idea that "fighting against rural poverty preserves biodiversity and mitigates climate change".

Mankind Survival Project, Port Harcourt
Mankind Survival Project promotes adolescent health and development and works with 10 - 24 year olds, providing IEC material, training, developing research, networking and advocacy.

Friends for the Preservation of the Niger Delta Environment, Port Harcourt
Friends for the Preservation of the Niger Delta Environment promote participation, harmonisation, research and conflict resolution through environmental projects, awareness, conservation and consultancy.

Ekuri Community Forestry Initiative, Calabar
The Ekuri Initiative works on sustainable forest management, conservation, community development and the alleviation of poverty. They mobilise self-help projects like road and bridge building and the provision of micro-credit.

NGO Coalition for Environment
(NGOCE), Calabar
NGO Coalition for Environment is a network of NGOs and Community Based Organisations. They build environmental groups through mobilisation, advocacy and education.

Grassroots Development Organisation
(GRADO)
Grassroots Development Organisation focuses on rural communities to promote a clean environment, access to potable water and self-reliance. This is done through awareness campaigning and by running training workshops.

Grassroots Action and Information Network (GAIN), Calabar
Grassroots Action and Information Network believes works on the empowerment of women at the grass-root level through collaboration, education/training, participatory methods and advocacy.

Abakan Ofutop Association,
Calabar
Abakan Ofutop organisation focuses on women, GROs, and participation. They aim to create awareness on environmental issues, promote sustainable development, alleviate poverty and raise the literacy level of rural women and youth through mobilisation, research, education and advocacy campaigns.

Rural Environmental Protectors

Rural Environment Protectors work on alleviating poverty through community development. They aim to mobilise rural populations by collaborating and integrating with funders and stakeholders.
